Introduction to the dream is a series of works which mark the arrival of Heidi*1 to the marvellous world that her companion Wanko-chan has dreamed up for her: Wanko-chan Island (Little Dog Island). This imaginary country, formed by idyllic digital landscapes, simplified versions in the Japanese style of real landscapes in northern Spain, subsequently turns into the setting for the adventures of this avatar of Kaoru Katayama.
*1 "Heidi" is a character taken from Swiss fiction created by Johanna Spyri, which, in about 1974, became internationally renowned through the Japanese cartoon series based on the character. The character of Heidi, as used by Kaoru Katayama, is a Swiss-Japanese resident in Spain who lives virtually on the idyllic Wanko-Chan Island and has been created by the artist to personify her own autobiographical intercultural experiences.
